If you’ve been a long time reader of my blog then you will know that I love to exercise and I try to stay fit. I enjoy a variety of exercises including running, lifting weights and yoga. I started noticing a few months ago that after I run my knees start to hurt.

As I get older I can only imagine my joint pain is going to get worse. My grandmother had horrible arthritis that was so bad her hands were permanently disfigured. My mom has been diagnosed with arthritis as well and I’ve learned when you live in constant pain it means you have to alter your lifestyle in order to manage it.
One of the reasons I love doing yoga is that it’s a low impact exercise and is in general, good for people who have arthritis or joint pain. I decided that since today is World Arthritis Day I would share with you some of my best ideas for hosting a yoga party.

Invite your girlfriends over for some socializing and snacks and enjoy a great way to live life to the fullest in spite of joint pain or arthritis.
Let’s get this party started!
Décor
Transforming your home into a chill space to practice yoga is easier than you might think. Even if you only have a small space you can push all the furniture to the walls to make room for your yoga mats, exercise balls and other accessories. Set up a table for food and drinks. Decorate using accents with a boho-vibe. Think patterned table cloths, geodes and crystals, Himalayan salt lamps and candle holders and lots and lots of house plants and cacti.
Food and Drinks
When you are doing physical activity it’s important to stay hydrated and keep the food light and easy to digest. I recommend going with platters of fresh fruit and veggies and bowls of mixed nuts. I also set out a plate of hummus and carrot sticks.
To make hummus, blend a 16 oz can of chickpeas, ⅓ cup of tahini, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, one clove of garlic and a teaspoon of lemon juice.
For drinks, I recommend berry infused water and green or herbal teas.
Music
When you are doing yoga you will probably choose soothing yoga music or something very relaxing with drums or flute. There are a ton of options available to purchase or download that are specifically meant for yoga or meditation. When you are hanging out, snacking and socializing you can pep up the music a bit. Try some reggae or Latin tunes.
The Yoga
Yoga is a fun low impact exercise that everyone can learn and enjoy. I have been practicing yoga for several years now and I like it because it actually helps my joints and flexibility when done correctly. For your yoga party, there are a couple of options, you can hire a yoga instructor to come to your house and lead the group or you can watch or stream a yoga DVD.There are many different styles of yoga to try. If you are feeling adventurous you can do power core yoga or if you feel like you need a gentler session you can do relaxing flow yoga.
Goodie Bags
When you think of goodie bags you usually think of a little kid’s birthday party. Why let the kids have all the fun? Put together a fun goodie bag for your girls with a journal, a collection of semiprecious stones, boho-style jewelry (I made this bracelet and earring set myself) and a bottle of Advil to help stay free from pain.
Hi I’m Adrienne Carrie Hubbard. I believe a rich life comes not from the things you have, but the things you do; the experiences you create and the people you meet along the way. Thanks for hanging out!
