The Best Way to Clean your Kitchen Cabinets- Fast
I don’t know about you, but I get a strange satisfaction from deep cleaning some of the messier areas of the house like the kitchen and bathroom.
One area of my kitchen that I always procrastinate cleaning and organizing is the cabinets and the pantry area. Even though the act of cleaning out those messy spaces isn’t much fun, the results are always worth it. Today I am going to show you the best way to clean your kitchen cabinets.
How to Clean the Inside of Your Kitchen Cabinets
Start with the inside of the cabinets. Pull the entire contents out of the cabinet and place it on the counter. Then, go through the dishes and containers and set aside any chipped or cracked dishes to give away or throw out.
If the items that are left aren’t squeaky clean and have some dust or grease residue on them, run them through the dishwasher while the rest of the cabinet is being cleaned.

How to Clean Sticky Wood Cabinets
Once the cabinet is empty, wipe down the interior with an all-purpose kitchen cleaner, or try my homemade kitchen de-greaser recipe:
Ingredients for homemade kitchen de-greaser:
- 2 cups of warm water
- 1 tablespoons of baking soda
- 20 drops of lemon essential oil
Mix in a spray bottle. Spray on grease and wipe away with a damp towel. You can also use lemon juice instead of essential oil.
Simply spray and wipe down the interior of the cabinets. If some of the cabinets have food crumbs or other large bits of dust or grime, vacuum them out before you wipe them down.
After the inside of the cabinet is clean its time to wipe down the doors and handles.
Clean Kitchen Cabinets with Vinegar
Another recipe to clean sticky kitchen cabinets is a vinegar and water solution.
Mix a 50/50 solution of vinegar and warm water and put into a spray bottle. Mist on cabinets, let sit for a minute or two and then wipe clean with a soft cloth. Add a few drops of Dawn dish detergent to the vinegar and water solution to clean extremely grimy cabinets.
My kitchen cabinets are white, which means every little stain or drip of food shows up. The kitchen cabinets also seem to be prone to greasy residue because of grease splashing around the kitchen from cooking.
Spray down the cabinet doors and handles and let the cleaning solution sit for a few minutes to help break down the grease.
Cleaning Kitchen Cabinets with Murphy's Oil Soap
Is Murphy's Oil Soap good for Kitchen Cabinets?
Murphy's Oil Soap, formulated as a safe cleaner for finished wood, cleans kitchen cabinets as well, even if the cabinets are a laminate rather than wood. Oil soap does not leave behind a residue, so it does not require rinsing.
Apply a dab of Murphy Oil Soap on a damp sponge or soft cloth; then wipe the soiled area. Wipe the area again with a dry cloth. To clean the entire cabinet surface, mix ¼ cup to ½ cup of the oil soap into a gallon of warm water, the amount determined by the type of cleaning your cabinets need: mild or deep.
When you are wiping down the outside of the cabinets make sure you give special attention to the handle and the area directly around it that is prone to messy fingerprints.
Keep in mind that if your cabinets are painted you will want to use a light touch when scrubbing to make sure you don't accidentally remove the paint. Let the cleaning solutions do the work.
After all the grease and grime are gone, use a soft microfiber cloth to buff the cabinets (especially if they are wood) to help bring back the shine.
Once your cabinets are sparkling clean place your dishes back inside and enjoy the feeling of satisfaction knowing you won’t have to worry about cups and containers falling out on you every time you open the cupboard door and that your kitchen is totally ready for your next guests.
