            DIY Felt Christmas Tree Tutorial

I’ve been wanting to make a felt Christmas tree for a few years now. I saw one on Pinterest a long time ago and thought my daughter, Chloe would really enjoy playing with it.

Now that she’s six years old I finally got around to crafting one for her. In fact, she actually demanded that she help me make it. If you child is old enough to operate sharp scissors then they can help you make this felt Christmas tree and play with it after it’s done.

            Instructions for Felt Christmas Tree

            1. Begin by folding your felt in half.
            2. Take your chalk and draw half of the tree on one side of the fabric.
            3. Next, use your scissors and cut out the chalk tree.
            4. Unfold the fabric and you will have a tree shape.
            5. Then, it’s time to make the felt Christmas tree ornaments. Cut shapes out of the smaller felt pieces.
            6. Cut shapes like circles, candy canes, stars and diamonds.
            7. Use the fabric scraps to make smaller felt shapes.

How to Hang the Felt Tree and Ornaments on the Wall

I used Command Strips to attach the tree to the wall. Use a hot glue gun to glue one side of the command strip to the tree at the top point and the bottom sides. Pull the adhesive off the other side of the command strip and press the tree firmly onto the wall.

Use glue dots or double sided poster tape for any parts of the tree the flop off the wall.

How to Play with the Christmas Tree and Ornaments

Once your tree is attached to the wall simply start picking up different felt ornaments and shapes and press them firmly onto the tree. The felt fabric naturally sticks to itself and the shapes will stay put where you press them until you move them.

You can then add smaller shapes on top of the felt ornaments to decorate them even more.

Let your child’s imagination run wild as they explore shapes, colors and patterns with this fun holiday activity.

Don’t want to make your own? You can buy the whole tree and ornament set on Amazon.
