Coffee Pre Workout Drink
Hey Gnomies,
Fall is just about here and the mornings are starting to get chilly again.
I’ve been making the switch from iced coffee back to hot coffee.
I am making some big changes to my diet over the last month or so. I have been seeing a Chiropractor who also does nutritional counselling.
I have switched to a ketogenic, gluten free diet. For a sugar and carb addict like me this is a big deal. I’ve been doing quite well on my program and have noticed a big change in my energy level.

In addition to improving my eating habit I also have been getting back in the gym and training for a 5km run with my friend.
I used to run all the time but got out of the habit over the past two years. I registered to run a 5K race in a couple weeks and have been training almost every day.
Once you start to dive into the world of health and fitness you can feel overwhelmed with the amount of information out there.
There are so many different supplements that you can take and weird powders and pills that are supposed to help with your performance.
The truth is you actually don't need any of that. If you want to get pepped up for a workout any time of the day, you probably already have something in your home that will do the trick:
A cup of coffee and a healthy diet.
Yes, that's right, a cup of coffee can be used as a pre-workout drink to boost your performance. Here's why it works:
Why Coffee is the Ultimate Pre Workout Drink
Caffeine is a stimulant and can be used in place of a pre-workout. Coffee—when consumed before exercise—can cause fat cells to be used as an energy source as opposed to glycogen. Also, the high amounts of caffeine in black coffee will increase your metabolism, which makes you burn more calories throughout the day. Having coffee before exercise enhances that effect.
Like most people I like to drink coffee throughout the day, not just in the morning. I usually exercise in the afternoon or after dinner depending on my schedule. Before I head out to the gym or for a trail run I make and drink an extra cup of coffee.
On a recent trip to Safeway I picked up a couple boxes of 1850™ Brand Coffee
I bought 1850™ Black Gold Dark Roast K-Cup® pods and 1850™ Lantern Glow™ Light Roast K-Cup® pods.
1850™ Brand coffee is a new premium coffee from the makers of Folgers. Folgers was founded during the California Gold Rush of 1850. Inspired by the heritage of The Folger Coffee Company, 1850™ Brand Coffee is an evenly roasted coffee made from 100% Arabica coffee beans, fire-roasted and steel cut for a delicious bold but smooth taste.
The beans are fire-roasted to help bring out rich taste and aroma. They are evenly roasted for consistent coffee flavor with less bitterness.

How should you prepare coffee for a pre workout drink?
If you don't like to drink your coffee black don't worry. You can easily add in a little cream or coconut milk. You will still get all the benefits of black coffee. The main thing is to not add any sugar. A little calorie free sugar substitute is fine, just don't undo all your hard work in the gym by adding a ton of calories from sugar.
Do you like to drink coffee all day and not just in the morning like me? What's your favorite way to drink it? Let me know in the comments and make sure you check out 1850 Brand Coffee in the coffee aisle at Safeway.
