How To Clean Dyson Vacuum (Basic Method)

Emptying The Canister

The canister should be emptied of anything inside. The outer shell should be removed using the button on the back that is found between the two red pieces.

Removing The Foam Filter

Open the bottom flap and remove the foam filter. Put it aside, as you will need this later.

Removing The Roller Cover

Flip your vacuum upside-down, then remove the bottom roller cover by using a flathead screwdriver. Use scissors to cut off any hair stuck on the roller. Blow out any dust or dirt inside the vacuum with compressed air. Replace the roller cover.

Using The Compressed Air

Put the cyclone part of the vacuum over a deep and large trash can. You should then use the compressed air on every individual hole; however, this can be messy, so be careful! Ensure that you turn the cyclone section over, and blow the air on the inside.

Cleaning The Canister

You now need to clean the canister section using compressed air. You should gather the canister, cyclone, sponge filter and move them to a water source.

Cleaning The Sponge

Run the sponge filter under cold water and continue to squeeze this until the water comes out clean. You will then need to run water through the canister too and wash thoroughly with dishwater.

Wiping The Cyclone

Use a damp paper towel to wipe off the cyclone section, and ensure that all the tiny holes are clean, rather than plugged.

Dry

Make sure that all sections that were cleaned with water are laid out to dry. This should be at least 24 hours.

Leaving any kind of moisture inside the cyclone or the canister will mean dirt will start to gather in the holes, and this can make the canister emptying a lot more challenging.

Additionally, Dyson is against the idea of running the cyclone section under hard running water, so avoid this as much as possible!

How To Clean Filters On Dyson

1. Turn off and unplug your machine from the socket on your wall. Remove the Dyson filters.
2. Rinse the filters in cold water, and squeeze the water out of the filter until the water begins to run clear.
3. Leave them in a warm place for 24 hours until they are completely dry. You can then replace the filters.

Cleaning A Dyson Animal Cyclone Component

1. Remove the bin and the cyclone part of the vacuum, you should do this as though you’re getting rid of a canister of dirt.
2. Ensure the bin is empty and that you have separated it from the upper cyclone component.
3. In the sink, run the water until it turns warm and rinse the grid of the vacuum's filtering holes.
4. Spin the unit, allowing you to rinse each section of the holes until the water is only running clear.
5. Spray water into the vacuum's main hole at one end of the unit, pour this out, and repeat until, again, the water runs clear.
6. Fill the unit once more, but only partway, and this will help to ensure every section is clean. Cover the big hole using one hand and gently shake the unit.
7. This should move the water inside the cyclone and rinse any last patch of dirt and dust from the interior. Pour this out and repeat until the water begins to run clear.

Cleaning Tips

The Dyson vacuum cleaner has an excellent reputation for cleaning. However, some things may cause problems when cleaning the unit itself.

• The most common problem is the build-up of lint within the cyclone.
• If you find yourself having difficulty getting the lint out of the cyclone, try removing the cyclone cover and shaking the unit vigorously.
• It may also help to use a brush attachment to remove the lint. Having any part of the cyclone clogged will prevent proper air circulation, and will prevent the maximum amount of suction for your carpet. This is why it is so important to keep it clean.
• If you notice that the motor starts making noise after you have used the vacuum cleaner for a while, it could be due to a worn belt. Check the belt for fraying or wear and replace it if necessary.
• If you notice that the suction power seems to decrease over time, check the hose connection.
• Make sure that the hose is securely connected to the unit before turning it on. Also, make sure that the hose is free of kinks or snags.
