Time Capsule DIY
Happy New Year!
I hope you all had a safe and fun New Year’s Eve last weekend! There’s something about the beginning of a new year and a chance to have a fresh start that always feels inspiring to me.
If you are a long time reader of this blog or my friend in real life you will know there are a few things that I am continually obsessed with. Gnomes (obviously), skeleton keys, rocks and crystals, things that are miniature and of course messages in bottles. I make little message in a bottle necklaces and jewelry and I have made them into tiny Valentines and even little vases!
Today’s craft uses the message in a bottle concept to hold a time capsule that you can look back in a year and remember all your favorite things that you were into at the start of 2017.
- Anything else you want to tuck inside the bottle
Begin by writing down all of your favorite things at the moment, like your favorite TV show, song, movie, etc. You can also add in accomplishments that you are proud of over the past year and goals that you hope to achieve over the next 12 months.
I put this time capsule questionnaire together for my daughter, Chloe. She’s three and a half years old so obviously the questions about proudest accomplishment and goals for the upcoming year are a bit mature for her. but older kids might like include more information.
Once you have filled out all your paper, roll it up and tie it with a small piece of string. Next, toss it into the bottle and add some feathers or other items like beads, glitter or other special notes or keepsakes into the bottle.
Finish up by sealing up the bottle. You can display it proudly on your shelf or make a fun game out of burying it in the back yard until next year.
In a year’s time, open up your message in a bottle time capsule and have fun reminiscing about all the things you were into the year before. Then, you can make another one!
What are some of your goals and resolutions for the upcoming year? Share with me in the comments or come say hi on Facebook.
