Ketchup Popcorn

Hey Gnomies,

Are you getting excited for the Big Game coming up?  When friends and family come over to celebrate and help cheer on your favorite team, it’s a great time to have some fun in the kitchen and try out some new and interesting recipes to share with your guests.

I was born in Canada and have lived in the U.S. for almost 10 years now. One of my favorite treats I miss from back home is ketchup flavored potato chips. I can occasionally find them in the supermarkets here in Washington State but they usually end up being a treat I only get to snack on when I go back home.

I came up with this fun recipe for ketchup flavored popcorn, a crunchy, tasty alternative to ketchup chips that is easy to make and all your friends (even the non-Canadian ones) will love.

The main ingredient in this recipe is French’s Ketchup. I picked up a bottle at my local Walmart last weekend.

Let’s head into the kitchen and make some Ketchup Flavored Popcorn!

Ingredients:

  • 1 bag of microwaveable popcorn or
  • 2 tablespoons of un-popped popcorn kernels
  • 3 Tablespoons of French’s Ketchup
  • 2 Tablespoons of butter
  • 1 Tablespoon of sugar

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 300 degrees.

Pop the popcorn according to the directions on the package. While it is popping, mix the ketchup, butter and sugar in a sauce pan on medium and stir until the ingredients have dissolved.

Pour the popped popcorn into an oven-proof pan and drizzle the ketchup mixture over the popcorn. Stir it to make sure all the popcorn is coated.

Place the pan in the oven and bake the popcorn for 12-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

It's ready to serve once the ketchup seasoning has dried and your popcorn is nice and crispy.
