There are some cleaning products that are so simple to make yourself you wonder why you ever bought them from the store. Wood polish is one of those items. All you need are a few simple ingredients to make this all natural, chemical-free wood polish.
Supplies
- 3 parts olive oil
- 1 part beeswax
- 10 drops lemon essential oil (optional)
- Small glass jar with a lid.
You can get beeswax from many online shops like Amazon or Candlewic. The beeswax is available in yellow or white and you can buy it in pellet form or in a block. If you purchase it in a block you will need to use a cheese grater to grate it into small pieces so that it will melt. I used the pellets so that I wouldn’t have to grate it.
Directions:
Take the olive oil and beeswax and combine them in a double boiler. Place on the stove and heat the oil and wax until the wax has melted. Add your essential oils. Take the glass jar and heat it with hot tap water. If it’s cold when you pour the oil solution in it might not settle properly and it could cause cracks in the finished product. Pour the oil/beeswax mixture into the jar and leave it to cool. That's it, so simple!

Alternatively, you can place the ingredients into a microwave safe bowl and heat them in the microwave. Only place the mixture in the microwave for a minute or two at a time, shorter once it starts to melt. Once it starts to melt it doesn’t take long at all for all the beeswax to be melted down.
Once it is cooled it will be a solid but it will easy to scoop out of the jar. To use it on wood products, dab a little bit on a cloth and buff it into the wood.

You can make this wood polish with other oils too like jojoba or coconut. Store it in a cool dry place with an airtight lid. Polish made with olive oil will last one year. Polish made with jojoba or coconut oil will last 2 years. If you store it in the fridge it will last twice as long.
The fun thing about this recipe is that because the ingredients are all natural you can actually use this wood polish as a salve for your skin or a lip balm! After all, its just beeswax, olive oil and essential oils. So if your skin is feeling super dry, just rub a little bit on!
Feel free to switch up the essential oils as you like but keep in mind that not all essential oils are safe for wood. Orange, lemon and other citrus are generally safe for wood.
There you have it. An all natural recipe for wood polish that doesn't have any harsh chemicals. What is your favorite natural cleaning recipe?
