Front Porch Makeover

Front Porch Makeover

Hey Gnomies,

I’ve been super busy lately with lots of home improvement projects. You probably already know about my mini kitchen remodel I’ve been working on over the past few months, but last week we painted the house and I gave my front porch a mini face lift.

I’ve wanted to paint our house for a few years now and last year I was all set to finally do it but I waited until too late in the fall and the rainy weather started. Once the rain starts in the Pacific Northwest it doesn’t stop until July.

This year I finally got my act together with the help of friends and family. As the saying goes “many hands make light work” and we were able to paint the house in record time because there were so many of us working.

Here are the “before” photos:

What you can’t see in the pictures is how dirty everything was. Seriously, it was way dirtier than these pictures look. The ceiling area was covered in dust and spiderwebs. The funny thing is I took these “before” pictures after I cleared all the junk off of the porch, so the “before” pictures are actually an improvement.

Since we don’t have a garage, this little porch area ends up collecting all sorts of junk we don’t know where to put anywhere else.

Now that I have things cleaned up and looking nice I’m motivated to keep it that way.

Here are the “after” pics:

The paint colors are from Behr. The white is Marshmallow white, the grey trim is Granite Grey and the blue door is Navy blue.

I recently asked my Facebook and Instagram followers to chime in with their ideas for my front door color. I was so indecisive about what color to paint the door. I remembered I had some blue paint left over from painting my bedroom so I went ahead and put two coats of that on the front door.

It looks so fresh and clean now.

The door knocker is from Home Depot and the wreath was on clearance from Joanne Fabrics for 90% off!

I placed this grey chair from Target on the porch and added a blanket I bought from Joss and Main as well as a pillow from Jerome’s Furniture.

The door mat is from Walmart and I am planning to use it in another project very soon. I will keep you posted on that.

I love the way everything turned out. It looks about 1000 times nicer in real life. I’m still planning to add new outdoor carpet on top of the old green astro-turf and I’m on the lookout for an outdoor shoe storage bench.

If anyone is wondering what the red and black thing up in the right hand corner of the porch is, it’s my husbands speed bag that he uses to practice his boxing and MMA. This was the only covered area around the house we had to put it. Plus, it gives guests something to do while they wait for us to answer the door! Haha.

I also painted the steps leading up to the porch. They look so much better, but I didn’t take a picture of them yet. I’m planning to rebuild the steps next summer. The front steps along with the back porch are super old and a lot of the wood has rotted so I will need to fix them up a little so they are safer.

What do you think of my front porch makeover? It looks so much better, don’t you think?
