Sea Urchin Mobile

Happy Friday Gnomies,

Today I’m sharing a fun mobile project with you. This sea urchin mobile can be made with urchins that you have found on the beach during your summer vacation. If you don’t have urchins near you, you can usually find them for sale at your local craft supply shop or online at places like Etsy or Ebay.

The shells are delicate but with some extra care you can make this hanging mobile in less than an hour. I hung mine in my bathroom. Shells and other beach decor usually fit in well in the bathroom.

Supplies

5 Sea urchin shells

36″ of beading wire

Assortment of beads

Tie a knot in the end of the beading wire and string on a bead. The bead will need to be small enough to fit inside the bottom of the urchin but big enough that it wont slip through the top hole.

Next, string on the urchin followed by an extra bead or two. Make another knot in the wire a few inches up. String on a few more beads. Make another knot and then add more beads and urchins.

Continue to alternate between adding beads and urchins in any pattern that you please. The urchins tend to look better when you hang them in odd numbers like three or five.

Once you reach the end of your beading wire, make a knot at the top and hang your mobile.
