Halloween is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate the season than by carving a unique and stylish Barbie pumpkin? Barbie is having a bit of a renaissance since the new movie hit theaters. It’s seems as if the entire world is looking through a pair of hot pink glasses and today I’m bringing the trend to pumpkins with a craft that all ages will love. The bonus? After Halloween is over you have a fun doll to play with. Let’s make a Barbie inspired pumpkin with a real doll and a foam craft pumpkin.
Supplies:
- Barbie doll (I used a cheap knock off from the dollar store)
- Star stickers
- Pink spray paint
- Scissors
- Knife
- Drill
- LED battery operated tea lights
Instructions:
Time needed: 2 hours
Barbie Pumpkin Halloween Craft
- Cut bottom of pumpkin
Use a knife to cut the bottom of the pumpkin off in a spot that makes sense. You want it to have the shape of the bottom of a dress so cut it at a spot that is wide.
- Cut the stem off
Cut off the stem and create a hole in the top center of the pumpkin that the Barbie’s lower body can fit through.
- Drill holes
Drill holes all over the pumpkin so that the light will shine through when it is lit.
- Stick on star stickers
The pumpkin I used was white and I stuck star stickers over each of the drilled holes so that when I painted the pumpkin pink, the white star shapes would be revealed after the stickers are pulled off.
- Spray paint
Spray the pumpkin with hot pink spray paint and leave it to dry. You might need two coats. Allow one hour between coats. Leave to dry for several hours.
- Peel off stickers
After the paint is completely dry peel each of the stickers off with a pair of tweezers.
- Insert the doll
I placed the doll into the hole at the top and ended up cutting her skirt so that it would cover the rugged edge where the stem was cut off.
- Add extra decorations
You can add decorations to the pumpkin to customize it to your liking. I used some glitter puff paint to add some extra dots.
- Light it up
Use battery operated lights to illuminate the pumpkin. Do NOT ever use a real flame with a foam craft pumpkin.
With the right materials, a steady hand, and a touch of patience, you can transform a simple pumpkin into a glamorous piece of art that celebrates both Halloween and the iconic Barbie. So, gather your supplies and let your imagination run wild as you embark on this delightful Halloween crafting adventure!
