DIY WIND CHIME WITH MINI TERRA COTTA POTS

We have been having beautiful weather with record breaking heat this month. I must say I am loving the sunshine and that I can get out in the garden finally this year. Today I am showing you how to make a mini wind chime with little terra cotta pots. Wind chimes are a great craft to make this spring.

Wind chimes are typically made out of suspended tubes, rods or bells and are hung outdoors from balconies or in the garden. Played by the wind they make all sorts of pleasant sounds.

There are so many materials you can make a wind chime out of like old cds, pieces of pipe or even beads. This tutorial shows you how to make a home made wind chime out of little terra cotta pots.

I found these mini terra cotta pots in my craft stash and thought it would be fun to make a home made wind chime for my garden. These are so simple to make and are fun to get kids involved in too (Mothers Day gift?).

You can paint the pots and accessorize with different beads and string. You can even play with the size and number of pots. Use bigger ones or cascade them from big to small? I love that you can make this wind chime with recycled materials.

I used beads to string along with the little pots so that they would stay in place and an antique key from my collection hangs from the bottom of the chime for a rustic touch.

SUPPLIES FOR DIY WIND CHIME:

- Mini terra cotta pots  - Leather cord  - Beads with a hole large enough to string the leather cord through  - Key for decoration at the end of the cord  - Copper tape

Cut a length of cord approximately 2 feet long. Make a loop and knot at one end of the cord larger than the hole in the pot. String it through and then string a bead onto it, on the inside of the pot. Tie a knot to secure it. This is so that the little pots stay in place and don’t slip down.

Next string a larger bead onto the cord. This bead will hang inside the pot and make noise when it hits the sides of the pot like a little bell. Tie a knot at the end of this bead so that it stays in place. Continue on down with additional pots. You can make the chime as long as you want.
