Top Interior Design Trends for 2018
It’s out with the old and in with the new. If you want to stay ahead of the design curve, it’s time to start preparing to decorate your home on point with the new trends coming in 2018. You can make a few changes throughout your house to reflect what’s in style. Here are some design ideas you can make note of as you seek to stay in fashion.
Incorporating Geometric Patterns
When it comes to decorating the rooms of your house, have fun with geometric patterns. You can make a bold statement with patterned wallpaper, while opting for simple solid colored furniture. Choosing tile backsplashes for the kitchen or bathroom in a pattern with different shapes can also add flair. A rug in a geometric pattern could also serve as the focal point in a room. If you’re looking to only make small changes, find a cool geometric pillow or throw. Both can add character to a solid colored couch or other piece of furniture.
Furniture with Fringe
Fringe isn’t a trend only cool for for clothing. It is now making it into bedroom and living room decor. You will soon start seeing fringe lining the outside of pillows. Even small pieces of furniture such as ottomans and footstools will be decorated with fringe. If you want to add a small dose of fringe to your bedroom, buy a throw that is lined with it.
Black and White Color Scheme
If you want to infuse your room with sophistication and elegance, the black and white trend may be the style trend for you. Its timeless quality will mean you won’t have to change the color pallette from year to year. Turn your photos black and white and frame them in black frames to decorate the walls. Choose solid black and white seating and add unique lighting such as a decorative chandelier or bold floor lamp.
Large pieces of furniture are making a comeback. While having a lot of extra space is in fashion, filling it with large statement pieces is in for 2018. Buying a couch that seats at least six is in style. Implementing large furniture can exude an antique vibe that adds a timeless feel to the space.
As you consider the type of material you want your seating to be made of, opt for fabric with texture. Not only does it provide another level of comfort, but it is also a trend that is in. Materials such as velvet, yarn and cotton are good for couches. Often times the fabric will be pleated and folded to add to the design element.
Using Natural Wood in the Home
One of the more organic trends is to feature natural wood throughout your house. Having walls made of wood or wood flooring adds to the room’s essence. Wooden dining room tables and chairs can all create a room that makes a simple yet powerful statement.
Add Metallic Decor
If you want to create a more futuristic ambiance, metallics are the way to go. Contrast traditional upholstered furniture with metallic side and coffee tables. They can become a focal point of the room. Pillows made of metallic fabric or even artwork with a shiny sheen can contribute to the overall look.
Art Gallery Walls
Its no longer out of fashion to deck your walls with photos and art. Frame your favorite family pics in assorted styles and colors. Choose artwork to tie in the design of the room. Don’t be afraid to hang multiple pieces on the same wall. The display will serve to accent the space and creates a decorative focal point within the room.
Decorate with Mirrors
If you want to create the illusion that your room is larger than it appears, decorate with mirrors. Mirrors placed directly across from natural light in your home will illuminate rooms. Opting for a decorative mirror rather than a piece of art can still contribute to the design of your living space.
Show Your Eco-Friendly Side
Designing an eco-friendly home is a growing trend. Hang a pot rack in your kitchen where you can grow your own herbs. You can even have a full on indoor garden somewhere in your home. Not only will the greenery serve as decoration but it also can help improve the air quality in your home. You will also have easy access to veggies and herbs.
Redesigning elements of your home to get in line with trends can be as easy as purchasing a few new throw pillows. It is up to you how far you apply the trends to your living space. Just remember nothing is permanent so if you implement a change you later don’t like, simply ditch the trend and opt for something that goes along with your taste.
