Looking for some cozy bedroom ideas? Winter is approaching and l’ve noticed when I wake up in the morning I can feel the chill of the crisp autumn air cooling the tip of my nose. I’m all about staying in bed as long as possible before I have to get up and brace the cold to start my day. Today I’m sharing my best cozy bedroom ideas to make your bedroom a relaxing sanctuary where you can curl up with a good book and chill out in all winter long.
Cozy Bedroom Ideas
I recently did a complete overhaul of my bedroom and craft room. I decided to swap the two. I moved all my bedroom furniture to the craft room and all my craft stuff into the bedroom. Why on earth would I do that?
Like many homes our master bedroom is the biggest room in the house. Since we don’t have a garage, basement or attic, it ended up collecting all the random stuff from around the house that we had nowhere else to put. My husband also stored his giant punching bag, MMA fighting stuff and a big screen television that we don’t even use in the bedroom.
I was always frustrated because I wanted my bedroom to just be a bedroom, not a catch all area where we toss our extra crap. I decided that I would move the bedroom into the smaller craft room so that it would just have our bed and clothing storage. The master bedroom would become half craft room and half home gym. Once my daughter is older we can put a couch in there and she and her friends can play and watch movies in that part of the house.
Right now everything is still a mess and I have to organize it all but I am looking forward to making over my bedroom and decorating it. I’ve been browsing on Pinterest for inspiration and a lot of ideas are coming up over and over again. Here are some of my favorite cozy bedroom ideas that I’m lusting after as I decorate my “new” bedroom.
Common elements of cozy bedrooms found on Pinterest:
- thick down duvets
- lush blankets
- twinkle lights
- sheepskin rugs
- soft muted neutral paint tones

I recently got these 100% cotton sheets from California Design Den. They are so soft and breathe-able. They are made ethically in India in a certified, socially compliant factory which supports more than 300 working families. The fabric is manufactured in a one of it’s kind gold rated LEED v4 certified facility equipped with the most modern machinery. The factory is the second manufacturing facility in the world to achieve Gold LEED EBOM certification from the United States Green Building Council.
Sheepskin rugs always look great in cozy bedrooms. They feel good on your feet and add a nice touch of texture to the space. Sheepskin rugs are multipurpose and can be used as seat covers, couch pads and area carpets.
Chunky knit blankets are so warm and cozy you’ll want to cover yourself in one and never leave the bedroom again. Can you think of anything more comfy on a cold winter day than wrapping yourself up in one of these? Just make sure you read the care directions and dry clean only.
Any easy way to add ambiance to any space is with lighting. Twinkle lights are perfect for the bedroom because you can still turn on your bedside lamp and have enough light to read without it being too bright. You can achieve a nice glow without messing around with candles. Twinkle lights can be hung criss-cross across the room or just above the bed.
During the colder months you will probably want to swap your comforter for something thicker and warmer. Down duvet’s are always popular, but you may want to try a down alternative that is cruelty free filled with microfiber and polyfill.
I started going to the Chiropractor last summer and he recommended a new pillow to help get relief for my neck pain. It’s called My Pillow and it has been working really well for me. If you need more neck support I recommend you give it a try.
If the sheepskin rug isn’t enough I recommend layering it over a shag rug for double the softness. My husband prefers carpeted floors but I like hardwood because it’s easier to clean. Get the best of both worlds with area rugs that you can vacuum under and get rid of once your pets have had one too many accidents on.
A nice smelling bedroom can make all the difference when you are trying to fall asleep at night. I get very sensitive to artificial fragrances and prefer essential oils. Try an oil diffuser to give your bedroom a spa-like scent.
Okay, so my tiny bedroom doesn’t have space for a hanging chair but if it did, I would love to have this hanging hammock chair in it. This chair would be a blast to relax in and drink tea while flipping through a magazine or working on a crochet project.
Don’t forget to keep your body warm and cozy too. I don’t know about you, but my feet get absolutely freezing in the winter. Cozy slippers are a must.
Don’t forget about your fur babies! Your dogs and cats deserve to be just as warm and cozy as you. If they don’t sleep in the bed with you set out a comfy bed for them to relax in on the floor.
It’s always a good idea to treat yourself to a special tea mug and your favorite warm beverage. I really like big chunky handmade mugs that hold at least two cups of tea so I don’t have to get up and make more. This cup is great because it helps keep your hands warm and there is a spot to put the used tea bag.
You can never have too many crystals on display. My collection keeps growing and growing and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Rose quartz is great to place in your bedroom if you want to add some extra romance to your life but think about what you want to manifest and find the crystal that best fits your life goals.
Just like crystals you can never have too many plants. Some of my hanging plants are getting really long and need to be re-potted. I’m going to be moving them to the bedroom where the light is nice and bright. Adding plants to your bedroom can also help purify the air and help you sleep better.
What are your must-have’s for a cozy winter bedroom? I’ll keep you updated as I decorate the bedroom and share the final look with you in a few months.
