5 Ways to Get Your Bathroom Ready for Guests This Holiday Season
The holidays are arriving faster than most of us would probably like. Before you know it you will have a flurry of guests popping over for holiday parties and get-togethers. More people in your home= more people using your bathroom. Make sure you have everything ready for your guests. Here are 5 ways to get your bathroom ready for guests this holiday season.
Make sure your toilet is sparkly clean
If there is one thing you should do before guests arrive, it’s give your toilet a good scrub. No one wants to use someone else’s messy bathroom, let alone toilet. Cleaning your toilet has never been easier with Scotch-Brite® Disposable Toilet Scrubber and Scotch-Brite® Disposable Toilet Scrubber Refills. I picked them up on a recent trip to Target. They are available in the cleaning aisle. Look for the instant redeemable coupon on the packaging for $2 off.
To clean your toilet start by filling up a large bucket with water and pouring it into the bowl. This will cause the toilet to flush and empty. Next, you can use the Scotch-Brite disposable toilet scrubber to scrub up the messes you’ve been leaving behind. The head of the brush is shaped to be able to reach under the rim and the flexing head design allows for maximum contact with the toilet bowl. It has a built in bleach-alternative cleaning agent and pumice scrubs away rust and hard water stains.
After your toilet has been scrubbed to perfection simply click the button on the handle and the disposable head comes off and into the trash. Give the outside of the bowl a quick wipe down and you are good to go!
One thing that can make your guests feel more comfortable in your home is an air freshener or scented candles in the bathroom.
*Side note: I have always had an air-freshener or scented candles available in my guest bathroom but whenever I have a male guest over and they stink the place up they never use it! WHY? WHY?! It drives me absolutely crazy. So really, keeping an air freshener in the bathroom is just for the ladies and we all know that girls don’t go #2 in someone else’s bathroom unless it’s an emergency. So make your guests feel more comfortable by keeping a candle lit in the bathroom during your next family dinner or party and help keep things smelling fresh in spite of whoever is using your bathroom. Speaking of emergency situations- always make sure you have a plunger handy for your guests- for obvious reasons.
Spruce up the décor
Once your bathroom is spic and span and you have all the necessities taken care of feel free to add some new decorative accessories. The holidays are a great excuse to go shopping at Target for some new hand towels and accessories like soap dispensers. You can get them in a holiday theme too if you like to get really festive. Potted plants like Poinsettia’s are inexpensive and easy to find every Christmas.
Get rid of the bar hand soap- Use a liquid with a pump
I often use bar soap for myself in the shower. When I wash my hands at the sink I prefer liquid soap in a pump. If I go to a friend’s house and they have a bar of soap at the sink to wash their hands with it secretly creeps me out. I always just wash with water, towel try and be on my merry way. I realize bar soap is self-cleaning but some things just shouldn’t be shared. Just say no to bar hand soap. Get a liquid soap dispenser with a pump. Your guests will thank you. Maybe not out loud, but trust me.
Keep a Stash of Extra Toothbrushes and Paste Handy
Sometimes when we have friends over for dinner or drinks they will decide to crash and spend the night, or sometimes even if they have planned to stay overnight all along they will forget to bring a toothbrush. Having an extra brush in unopened packaging and toothpaste is a nice gesture to help make your guests feel right at home. A stash of other toiletries like deodorant and contact lens solution is also a nice touch to store in your bathroom cupboard.
