Black Friday: A Complaint and a Coupon
Tomorrow is what's known as Black Friday in the USA. I'm sure I don't have to explain to you what Black Friday is. I've never really had the desire to wake up at some crazy hour in the middle of the night just to stand in line for hours in the freezing cold so that I can body check hundreds of people to save 70% on something I really didn't need anyways.
My husband used to love Black Friday. While I was at home in my warm bed sleeping he would be out waiting in line at Walmart or Target or Best Buy. He would get some great deals on dvds and other things he liked but this year he has decided not to venture out into the madness that is Black Friday. He summed it up pretty well on a Facebook post last night which I will share with you. I agree with his statement and frankly he says it a lot better that I could.
"I pine for the olden days of Black Friday, where people would amass around the block waiting for an hour and a half or so for Target to open, having good natured chats at 3:30 in the morning. Then at 5am, the doors open and the madness begins. If you were lucky, you were out the door and onto Walmart in time to get a little bit of random chatting in with the early morning crazies there, waiting for the 6am open. Then Best Buy at 7. I'd take part in Black Friday early morning madness for the bizarre experience contained within more so than the cheap deals--twas fun and surreal. Now Black Friday starts at 2pm on a Tuesday in July. The Black Friday experience has officially been ruined." - Rob Hubbard
I was talking with a co-worker yesterday. She mentioned she would be heading to Target tonight at 7:30 because that's when all the sales start. I mean, if you love to shop then who am I to stop you? It just seems really crazy to me that people would rather cut their Thanksgiving dinners and family time short just so that they can get some great deals on stuff they really don't need. I used to work in retail and the thought that companies like Walmart and Target make their employees come to work on Thanksgiving night so that they can open their doors that early really makes me angry. That's the main reason I choose not to participate besides the point I made earlier about getting up in the middle of the night and standing out in the freezing cold for hours.
Now with all that said I am going to offer you a coupon for my Etsy shop :) Call me a hypocrite if you want but you can use this coupon code any time of the day you want until Sunday.
