Coffee Protein Shake
After a long hiatus my smoothie of the week series is back. This smoothie recipe is based off of one I found on the side of a can of coffee I purchased from Safeway of all places. For some reason I never thought of adding coffee to a breakfast smoothie but considering most of us could really use a jolt of caffeine in the morning this makes sense. My morning start early. You might even say they start in the middle of the night. I have to get up at 2am for work and my job is very physical. I load boxes into delivery trucks all morning. So a cup of coffee is pretty much mandatory and I also need something to fill me up since I'm working pretty hard all morning. This smoothie does the trick! I bring it to work in a travel container and it keeps me going until break time.
1 cup coffee
1 frozen banana cut into chunks
1 scoop of protein powder
dash of milk or alternative milk (I use almond milk)
Add all ingredients to a blender until smooth and creamy.
For extra sweetness you can add stevia sweetener or honey. If you want a chocolate flavor you can add a little bit of cocoa. You can put in whatever tickles your fancy!
