DIY Fly Tape

We’ve had some beautiful weather recently here in the Pacific Northwest and I’m loving it. What I’m not loving are all the flies and bugs that seem to come out with the hot weather.
Is there anything more annoying that flies buzzing around your face all day?  One way to combat annoying flies is  to buy those sticky tape strips that you hang from the ceiling . The flies are attracted to the sweet scent and fly up to it  and then get stuck on the tape. You can easily make your own version of fly tape with a few simple materials you probably already have around the house.

Materials:

Brown paper bags
String
Hole punch
Tacks
Paintbrush
Something sweet and sticky ( like maple syrup, corn syrup, honey, agave, or molasses)

Instructions:

Cut your brown paper bags into strips and punch a hole near one end

Tie a sting through the hole so you can hang it

Paint on your sticky substance. I used corn syrup and just painted it on one side so it would be easier to handle.

 Tack it to the ceiling

Although sticky tape with dead flies hanging from the ceiling might not be the most esthetically pleasing way to combat flies it does help if you're like me and only have to deal with these pests for a few months out of the year and don’t have screens on your windows and doors.

  1. Thank you so much, having a slight nightmare at the moment with the flies, the have mounted a full on invasion of the kitchen, we are going to combine some of these elements, and some elements from some other traps, to create the most terrifying device a fruit fly will ever encounter, and commence fruit fly genocide. Will update after the battle commences.
